Tara Spencer-Nairn

I am so excited to be bringing you something fantastic today, I got a chance to interview Tara Spencer-Nairn, who plays Officer Karen Pelly from Canada’s own favorite show Corner Gas. Corner Gas recently took the plunge into the animated world and we couldn’t be happier to see it back in action!

Tara Spencer-Nairn took the time to answer a few of our questions about kids, career and all things Corner Gas and we hope you love her as much as we do. Remember Corner Gas Animated airs Mondays at 8pm ET/PT on The Comedy Network so don’t miss out!

What are your thoughts in regards to the show going from live action to animated series?

I love the idea. To me it really feels like a natural transition for the original show. The original show felt so animated, but now the writers aren’t held back in any way. They can be as creative as they like with the show’s dream sequences.

As a mom of two boys do you feel like the corner gas change to an animated series will make it easier for your family’s schedule?

It’s absolutely easier on the family schedule. The most obvious being that I don’t have to be a different city than my children! And trust me, my husband is very happy about that! We generally record a session during school hours so I can drop the kids off at school and be there in the mornings, then make it back to school in time for pick up. What more could a parent ask for? It’s truly a dream!

What is your largest struggle and greatest reward from juggling your kids and your acting career?

I feel all parents are juggling and struggling in their own ways. For me, my largest struggle as a full-time mom (who still has a toddler who’s not in school yet) is the last minute nature of everything in this industry. From auditions to booking work, your life can be turned completely upside down within 24 hrs. Trying to find babysitters and maintaining your kids schedules in that kind of environment is extremely difficult.

Now that the series is animated what are some of changes you are most excited about?

Well I’m very excited that animated Karen won’t age! Hahaha! I’m excited to see where the writers can take these characters now that reality is no longer an issue. I’m also excited that I get to continue to work with the cast. I genuinely love every single one of them so any time I’m with them is a win.

Even though you aren’t physically there, what do you love most about being back at Dog River?

There’s something about Dog River that will always feel like home to me. This show changed all of our lives and I’m extremely grateful for that.

Outside of Corner Gas and your role as Karen do you have any other amazing projects you are working on or hoping to work on?

I’ve really been focusing hard on trying to create my own content lately. Nothing I can share at this moment, but hopefully soon!

As a Vancouver resident I love to hear from fellow Vancouver actors where their favorite places to eat or visit in our amazing city are! (even if you don’t currently reside there) We would love to hear yours!

I hate to disappoint you, but I am so out of the Vancouver dining scene! I can’t even remember my last meal there!!! As long as I’m with people I love I’m a happy gal!

I can’t thank Tara Spencer-Nairn enough for taking the time to answer our questions and give us the down low on the new amazing Corner Gas animated series airing Mondays at 8pm ET/PT! It was such a pleasure to get to know one of our favorite characters a little more especially as a mother.
